Message To Our Frontline Healthcare Workers.
Thank you, dear helpers!
Hello Frontline Healthcare Workers! You’ve saved lives, nurtured and cured patients, and given hope to families of patients or those who are suffering. As you prepare for possible strike actions, we want to extend our support to you: the people and leaders in healthcare.
The holiday season is upon us, and we wanted to say thank you to all our frontline healthcare workers and hospitals, particularly those who are treating Ebola patients in West Africa. We know that Ebola is disruptive to normal life in these communities, and the conditions in the field are very difficult. Only those on the front lines understand how strict the protocols need to be.
I say frontline workers because it’s not just the medical doctors who make a difference to their people. Midwives, nurses, and caretakers also bring comfort and joy into the lives of those we serve. We are grateful for the care you give our clients. We are grateful because we know how difficult your work can be. We’ve heard harrowing stories of abuse and neglect from many of our frontline workers. These experiences are all too common in communities where there is little trust in government institutions. You have chosen to do this difficult job despite not being given everything you need to do so or despite being insulted by fellow citizens in your workplace from time to time.
For most of us, our doctors are among our greatest teachers, and our nurses are among our saviors. They are also your front-liners. The people who hold up the health care system are those who work to keep it running: The ones on the front lines. They see first-hand the daily hardship that many patients face. Simply put, they are the unsung heroes of healthcare. I’m not talking about anyone being overworked or underpaid; this is by no means a sad attempt at trying to make an otherwise thankless job seem like it’s worth a million bucks. What I am saying is, let’s remember what makes these people do such a difficult job so selflessly – it is because
Thank you for your care, your expertise, and your willingness to put others first. At this time of turbulence and change in our workplaces, it is easy to get discouraged or even feel overwhelmed. Know that we admire you and greatly appreciate the time you give to us as patients, families, co-workers, and friends.
